DC Comics to Publish Title Based on Prototype

When comics and video games collide, the results aren’t always good. Well DC Comics announced that they are working on a comic book tie-in series for Sierra Entertainment’s upcoming “Prototype” video game. Ok, what’s Prototype:

“Prototype puts gamers in control of Alex Mercer – a genetically mutated shape-shifter with no memory of his past, hell-bent on solving the mystery of his existence – as he tears through a densely populated New York City moving with Parkour-style fluidity and consuming anybody that gets in his way…assuming their physical identity, memories and abilities. Fueled by a three-way war between Alex, the military’s elite Blackwatch division and a viral outbreak known as the Infected, players will venture deep into a dark conspiracy, 40 years in the making.”

The series is set to debut this August via DC’s WildStorm imprint. Prototype will be released on current-gen consoles and PC later this fall. I might pickup a copy out of curiosity.

“NCsoft pioneered online game development using Unreal Engine, as evidenced by Lineage II, one of the most commercially successful and enduringly popular online games in history,” said Jay Wilbur, vice president of Epic Games. “We are thrilled to take this next step with NCsoft, and are fully committed to supporting their projects. We expect to be completely wowed by what they do with our latest technology.”

No word yet on when we’ll be seeing these new titles.
