Bizarre Creations Acquired by Activision

Project Gotham Racing 4
U.K.-based video game developer Bizarre Creations was acquired today by publisher Activision. According to the official press release, the acquisition represents Activision’s latest step in its ongoing strategy to enter new genres (they’re probably looking at expanding their non existent racing market).

“Bizarre Creations and its games have won numerous industry awards including: Best Racing Game for Project Gotham Racing 2 from the prestigious British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA); the Industry Grand Prix Award from Develop; MCV’s UK Development Team 2006 award; Best Racing/Driving Game from IGN; Game of the Year from OXM and Gamespy for Project Gotham Racing 3; and IGN’s Best XBLA Game for Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved.”

The Project Gotham Racing franchise is owned by Microsoft, perhaps Metropolis Street Racer will be revived?

Halo 3 24 Hour Stats

Halo 3 Xbox Live

Wow, “Halo 3” is pretty popular, I guess:

“In its first 24 hours on the market, Halo 3 has shattered previous entertainment records by garnering an estimated $170 million in sales in the U.S. alone. This third instalment in the epic sci-fi trilogy beat previous launches of blockbusters such as ‘Spider-Man 3’ and ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’.” (from Microsoft PR)

Also, according to Bungie.net, 4,911,864 matches were logged in the last 24 hours with 1,422,356 unique players experiencing the game on Xbox Live.

Halo 3…

Halo 3

I’ve managed to get a few playing hours with “Halo 3” for the Xbox 360 (both single player and online). I am enjoying the game thus far, but I am not as captivated by it as I was with “Bioshock” a few weeks ago. It feels more or less like “been there, done that”. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Halo series (one of the strongest and most important video game franchises), but it just seems like the series needs more than just a graphical update. I don’t want my Halo franchise to go stale.

I am not really far enough to pass any judgement on the game, and I am positive when I deliver my review of the game that I will give it a near perfect score, but I hope that Bungie (developer) decides to give us a little more next time around. I should have a full review of the game by next week. I’ll be posting more about the game as the week progresses.
