Introducing the Widow Maker Bass

Guitar Hero/Rock Band PS2/PS3 Bass

Canadian peripherals and accessories maker The Ant Commandos (TAC) have unveiled their new bass guitar for use with Rock Band or Guitar Hero on Sony’s PS2 and PS3. According to the official press release, the $69.99 wireless Widow Maker Bass Guitar not only features FeatherTouch Fret Buttons, but also uses AutoSense wireless technology using 2.4GHz radio connectivity and offering a largest and longest body design, resembling the classic body style of a real bass guitar. Here’s a cut from the official press release

“TAC is committed to providing the best possible peripherals to players for their favorite music video games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band, and with the Widow Maker, gamers are getting the best quality wireless bass guitar on the market today,” said Jesse Manwill, Senior Manager, Product Management at TAC. “The Widow Maker is 100% compatible with all versions of Guitar Hero and Rock Band for the PS2 and PS3-including rock Band’s effects switch and solo functions- so consumers are truly getting their money’s worth for a top-notch bass guitar that they can rely on for years to come.”

The product is now available at select retailers. No word on the possible release of a Wii or Xbox 360 version.

The Check In

Battlefield: Bad Company (Xbox 360/PS3/PC)

“Battlefield: Bad Company” looks like it will be this season’s must have title (closely followed by Soul Calibur IV). Early reports point to the game being as good, if not better than “Call of Duty 4”. I haven’t had a chance to try out the demo, but I’ll be attempting to get my hands on a copy before week’s end. A perfect game for those rainy summer days.

Battlefield: Bad Company Heading to Store Shelves

Battlefield: Bad Company PS3/X360

One of the most anticipated games of the summer will be hitting store shelves shortly, as Electronic Arts and Digital Illusions announced earlier today that “Battlefield: Bad Company” is heading to retail and into gamers’ hands by week’s end. The latest title in the Battlefield franchise features both a single player and multiplayer gameplay. Here’s a small blurb taken from the official press release:

“Battlefield: Bad Company delivers a deep single-player campaign loaded with dark humor, intense combat and deafening destruction. Players take on the role of Preston Marlowe, a young soldier whose antics land him in the division with the highest mortality rate alongside other troublemakers Sarge, Haggard and Sweetwater. Players will tackle harsh terrain and fierce enemies with their squad of renegade soldiers as they search for an elusive treasure using dozens of vehicles, weapons and deadly toys all at their disposal for explosive experimentation.”

The game will be available on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 and is rated Teen.

Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath Ships to Retail

Kane's Wrath Xbox 360

Xbox 360 owners who enjoy playing their real time strategy (RTS) games on the console will be pleased to learn that EA’s “Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath” has shipped to retail and will be available for purchase this week. Kane’s Wrath is the standalone expansion to last year’s “Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars.” Here’s a clipping from the official press release:

“Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath on the Xbox 360 features four gameplay modes, including the all-new and exclusive Kane’s Challenge – a grueling gauntlet of 90 matches against nine deadly armies, featuring exclusive cutscenes and taunts from Kane. Skirmish and multiplayer battles are available for up to four players over Xbox LIVE, with VisionCam support and over 50 maps to choose from. Players will also be able to enjoy a 13-mission story-driven campaign, told through over 40 minutes of high-definition, full-motion videos starring Natasha Henstridge (Species), Carl Lumbly (Alias) and, of course, Joe Kucan as Kane himself. The epic story spans two decades of Tiberium Lore, focusing on the rebirth of the Brotherhood of Nod after the Second Tiberium War through the dramatic events of the Third Tiberium War and beyond.”

Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath is rated Teen.

The Check In

Commando 3 XBLA

I spent the weekend traveling, but I did manage to slip in a few hours of gameplay here and there. One of the games that I played the most was Capcom’s “Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3” on Xbox Live Arcade. I was actually enjoying what I played. I was hoping to feel a little more nostalgic though (I am a huge fan of the original arcade version), but I enjoyed this latest sequel/re-imagining. I expect to put in quite a few more hours of gameplay. Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 is one of the best Xbox Live Arcade titles to grace the console in quite a while. Mini review coming shortly.
